I've mixed feelings about this. Yes it's right to call out racism whenever it is seen, and there should be some form of punishment. It should also be considered that this was 9 years ago so he would have been 16 years old. I'm pretty sure we all did/said some really stupid things when we were 16, so this has to be took into consideration. I'm not a fan of cancelling people for one off events either (unless they are truly heinous) as it leaves little room for change. Ultimately we can call people racist but this achieves little, what we need to do is challenge these thoughts, discuss why they are wrong and permit regret and forgiveness. Yes if people show no remorse, no appetite for change or continue with these negative behaviours then further punishment is needed, but we need to promote the ability to change to foster a better world imo.
