Also famous as the City of Lakes, Udaipur attracts visitors from across the globe. The place is a paradise for luxury-seeking honeymooners offering splendid views of the lakes. The city is home to some exotic historic lakes which are the whole enigma around the city rests mostly on them. Imagine sitting next to a lake-side cafe in the evening, sipping a cup of tea and enjoying the most spectacular sunset views. The lake is so beautiful that it has also featured in several Hollywood and Bollywood movies. The famous James Bond movie Octopussy was also shot here. The luxury Taj Lake Palace hotel is the star attraction here. Credit: iStock 03 Udai Sagar Lake Udai Sagar Lake was built during the reign of Maharana Uday Singh in the 16th century. The lake was commissioned to meet the water demands of the people living in the region. A number of battles have been fought on the banks of this lake, and the infamous history of the lake is one reason that tourists from all over visit here. Credit: iStock 04 Rajsamand Lake Rajsamand or Rajsamudra Lake was built in 1660 by Maharana Raj Singh. The serene and scenic lake is noted for offering panoramic sunset views. Those in search of peace and nature in Udaipur, this lake is perfect for them. A number of marble ghats are constructed which looks marvelous. Credit: iStock 05 Jaisamand Lake Also known as Dhebar Lake, this is the second largest artificial lake in India. The 14 km long lake was built in the 17th century on the banks of Gomati River. Maharana Jai Singh had commissioned the dam on the lake which is so huge that it also houses a Shiva Temple. Credit: iStock 06 Fateh Sagar Lake One of the most stunning lakes in Udaipur, Fateh Sagar Lake is a must-see attraction in the city. This 2.5 km pear-shaped lake was built in the 17th century by Maharana Jai Singh of Udaipur. Later, Maharana Fateh Singh got it remodeled and hence the name. From here one can enjoy gorgeous views of the Aravalli Hills. October to March is the best time to witness the beauty of the lake. Liked this article?
