This article discusses some cases of disinformation campaigns and how the use of AI tech such as GPT3 will make it even harder to uncover propaganda and disinformation. It also briefly touches on solutions to proving someone is who they say they are, such as confirmed ID and the pitfuls of such solutions. IMO its starting to look like people are going to have either become experts at spotting disinformation (unlikely) or a better Web of Trust is going to be needed to help people navigate online news. "The rise of generative text will deepen those suspicions and change the information environment in other ways. In the media, editors will find themselves exercising extra vigilance to avoid publishing synthesized op-eds by future algorithmic Alice Donovans and Sophia Mangals. Major internet companies will work to make detection of generated content as fast and effective as possible. Still, as the detection technology grows in sophistication, so too will tools that generate images, videos, and text even more seamlessly."
