Should we vote on an article based on it's relevance or our opinion on it's position? Firstly, the app is called Relevant so that largely answers the question for us! But why? 'Fake news' and media bias has become a hugely debated topic recently and it's narrative has been a large factor in the recent civil unrest across The States and Europe. By upvoting for content that is relevant rather than because we agree with the writer's opinion, we create news that is objective and therefore allow users to form a more balanced opinion. Me myself have been reading articles I wouldn't usually be shown on other platforms, and that's a good thing. Thoughts?

Actually the contents on this platform are variegated and reliable. Looks like everybody is trying their best to keep this network clean and free from fake news. The community is very committed too, so i personally think that we have the opportunity now to turn all of this in a new space where everyone can find what is looking for while being protected by the reliability of sources

well said! I very much agree with the point. Someone’s opinion on a matter may be uncomfortable to read if you have your own opinion on the matter, but in relevance they may be stating the absolute fact and in this case you need to upvote them for it’s relevance and not based on your bias.

I hope the economic incentive of Relevant can help general users understand the difference between relevant content and feelings. My first down vote was a reactionary response to a negative feeling on a very good but distasteful news article. Interesting for me and likely to be a learning curve for most social media users.

All MSM is propaganda. It has an agenda. It used to be all we had and now the internet and open source, decentalized technology are beginning to fix that. Unfortunately, its early days and we still have a long way to go.

I love the idea of decentralized social media and I feel like it is super necessary going forward

So for me it's about curating information in a different way to the norm of click baiting and Inflammatory models that are designed to promote engagement in search of ad revenue via clicks. That relevant attempts to try and find information that is relevant to current circumstances, that informs people and empowers them with more knowledge of the world without being overly biased or partisan. I personally don't necessarily have to agree with an article to upvote it, but it has to appear to be attempting to be factual, informative and not just designed to trigger people's emotions....though of course many good articles will still be emotive.

But I think we should vote article base on our opinion of it's stand because if we don't agree to an article, they is no point we will give a vote to it.

In a way you do have a point but I’d say it depends on what kind of article. If it’s a racial topic, it’s sometimes really hard to be objective since it gets personal real quick. But say it’s political or religious, you can understand someone’s point but yet disagree with them. And in such cases you vote based on the relevance of their topic or article not based on your own opinion on the topic. Hope this helps

I think we should vote an article base on our opinion on its position because if we don't agree to an article, we will barely upvote such an article

I think it's important for decentralized platforms to exist so as to ensure freedom of speech

Speaking for myself - I'd say an article would atleast have to be deemed as relevant and interesting to me, for it to receive an upvote, otherwise no vote or a downvote. If the content/comments in the article stimulate my brain - i'll probably leave a comment as well!

The platform here is great currently. It’s keeping news ‘Relevant’ and providing the users with wonderful new things to read. That said, the one issue is that there are clearly some people with a lot of tokens and ‘relevance’ power that knock down seemingly relevant posts. That seems to be an issue that needs to be addressed. What if someone accumulated so much power that then they could seemingly destroy everyone else? That’s certainly a concern of mine, especially today, as I see many relevant comments with an insane amount of downvotes. To me, relevance doesn’t mean agreement, it means ‘on topic’ and discussion worthy.

What you've mentioned here is a problem I've seen on every single monetized social media or blogging platform I've been on. (at least a dozen) Firstly, any monetized platform with a 'demerit' function (like downvote) will obviously be prone to abuse. Even the upvote function can be abused on some platforms by colluding with your buddies etc. Then you have the issue you've mentioned, which is an undue amount of power and influence in the hands of often very early adopters. So called 'decentralized' platforms can lose that quality in a hurry! I posted something this week I felt fit very nicely and it was immediately downvoted to the point it was hidden. Strange

I’ve done well here, thankfully. But today I had a normal comment to someone about social media and it’s dangers and immediately had 24 downvotes. And for those who are new, that’s so influential and they jump on the bandwagon. The downvote should really be for spam and the like, not different opinions.

Totally agree, but i'm not sure if/how that can be enforced. In my experience, in general, people are way too capricious to use monetized social media in a mature and responsible way not subject to their fanciful whims. Publish0x is the only example, in my experience, of a system that is difficult to abuse (the most you could really do is collude with all your friends to tip each other)--but it's also pretty much impossible to earn a significant amount there either.
