'Greece’s prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotaki, has spoken to Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, about the developing situation in Afghanistan this week. Greek migration minister Notis Mitarachi last week said: “We cannot have millions of people leaving Afghanistan and coming to the European Union … and certainly not through Greece.” The country has just completed a 25-mile (40km) wall along its land border with Turkey and installed an automated surveillance system with cameras, radars and drones.'

Yet again western countries are fast to deny the basic human rights that they preach. Asylum law is international law and there should not even be a debate about 'accepting refugees'. This is not a request, it is the international law which most countries have agreed to uphold. Plus, western countries have all been keen on war profiteering in Afghanistan and now they do not want to pay for the consequences of their actions. That is why there is such an overextended concept like 'economic-migrants' that is used to discredit asylum seekers and reject their legitimate claims. It is on the hypocrisy of EU member-states that vultures such as Erdogan (president of Turkey) can prey by using refugees as pawn to trade for ransom money.

"Marion Bouchetel from the Legal Centre Lesvos told the Guardian that Greece’s decision to class Turkey as a safe third country for refugees was “an abusive and dangerous misapplication of the safe third country concept provided under EU law." More preemptive panic&fearmongering. Fewer than 5000 of any nationality have arrived in Greece this year. Refugees fleeing Afghanistan face immense hostility and pushbacks all along the route- for Europe to fail the few who make it is beyond shameful
