What if we’re scared to go back to normal life?
What if we’re scared to go back to normal life?
During a pandemic, our bodies are stuck in a very high stress response mode. It will leave feeling tired sad, and easy to find. Unaccustomed to the state of the corona virus pandemic, the body now has to adapt to a new environment. The feeling of stress that is still in the body can increase again and can actually make you more anxious.

Too true -- "Those venturing out of their bubble often describe a feeling of watching themselves socialize. “I’m very conscious about what I’m saying when I’m speaking aloud,” one friend told me. “I immediately apologize for myself, like, I haven’t really talked to anyone in a long time—I’m sorry!”

[@AlexCPoon](/user/profile/AlexCPoon) This was really interesting for me to read because I have some social anxiety and Depression as well. Reading about all these people worrying that they will be boring and have nothing to say is kind of reassuring because I've had that experience so much in life and usually felt like I was the only one. But now after so much isolation, I'm so eager to get out and meet people that anxiety isn't really a factor. EVERYONE is experiencing the same thing. No no some of us have been living like well adjusted individuals this entire time. Finally telling the truth about how I felt. Therapy and medication. And realizing I am valuable and loved.

[@AlexCPoon](/user/profile/AlexCPoon) [@Ashmere](/user/profile/Ashmere) Even toxic workplaces increase risk of depression. My last job, I had become so horribly depressed and suicidal even on a daily basis. When I left, I immediately started becoming back to my usual self. It has a lot to do with the environment but especially terrible management. This is encouraging. I just made my first VA mental health appointment after a few years of struggling. Thanks for posting your comment here. Hope everything just keeps getting better, brother.

Every day of this shit has been painful, and my mental health has completely disintegrated over the last year. I cannot wait for life to get back to normal so much I'd cut off a finger if that expedited the process. Safe to it's tough for me to understand this reopening anxiety. To me this has been the worst year ever.

[@bryan](/user/profile/bryan) it's sort of a fake it 'til you make it scenario. If you're vaccinated now, I would highly recommend taking small steps now to reintroduce yourself to things you enjoyed before. As things ramp back up, you will have less of a chance to get back to normal at your own pace. A lot of people are having a hard time with it.
