The articles' message is a valid one, but it's also based mostly around a few old newspaper clippings in order to provide a narrative against those who are skeptical about the current lockdown situations and measures. The Spanish flu was a far more devistating pandemic compared to Covid (so far) that significantly affected the young and healthy; whilst covid has mostly affected the elderly and sick. I'm personally still not sure about the types of blanket lockdowns that persist in many western countries in the context of indiscriminate application against all independent of a persons risk.
I see first hand on a daily basis the catestrophic damage they have caused in the communities I serve. I have never witnessed such a general sense of hopelessness and fear that I see now. Yes lockdowns likely help reduce cases and if covid does start to affect the young and healthy (see Brazil) then I can understand and accept the blanket policies of them, but for now I can't help but feel things could have been done differently.
