Now that backing Trump isn't politically viable, multiple administration officials, including former Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, have tendered their resignations. Mick Mulvaney claimed that administration officials “didn’t sign up for what you saw last night. He also opined that they “signed up for lower taxes and less regulation” and that it was “extraordinarily disappointing” that yesterday’s events have ruined Trump’s legacy.
Congratulations to every single complicit Republican who made this deal with the devil so they could secure tax cuts for the rich and conservative judges. Make no mistake: They knew exactly what they were signing up for. They knew when Trump announced his candidacy by denigrating Mexicans as rapists and drug dealers. They knew when Trump called neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville “very fine people.” They knew when Trump praised QAnon believers as “people that love our country.”
So please, Mick Mulvaney, spare me the faux outrage and ignorance. You — and all of Trump’s other Republican enablers — are just as responsible for yesterday’s attack as Trump is.
