'There is some evidence to suggest that video telehealth may have some advantages over standard in person psychotherapy. Research has found that telehealth practices could represent “an important component of the future of psychotherapy and clinical practice.'

It is fortunate for the health care industry that the technology is available to deliver telehealth services. If Covid had happened 10 years ago it would be a different story.

I have mixed feelings about this piece. It is a bit of a sell piece by the site, but the broad strokes are generally correct. I have done quite a bit of telehealth this year as well as in-person w/N-95 and transparent barrier. The call dropping or lag that can happen on any platform can be really frustrating during delicate moments in therapy. On the other hand, doing therapy through a mask and transparent curtain is a bit weird to say the least. My best read of the relationship between telehealth and traditional in-office therapy is that they are two distinct tools in the clinical armamentarium. Teletherapy will probably result in quicker disclosures and better access, but less emotional oomf than in-person. In-person allows for more relational tension/meaning, but may pull for longer periods of avoidance of material that is perceived to be shameful. I have done adult and adolescent therapy for over 17 years and this year has definitely been the weirdest. It has also been the most variable in terms of outcomes.

I have to admit, there are two reasons why I shared it. Firstly, I am one of the founders and wanted to get a bit of visibility and feedback away from the usual social media channels, and secondly, I shared it because I have the analytics behind it and wanted to see just how many people who upvoted it actually clicked and read it.... I appreciate you taking the time to read it Dr.
