An intentional parallel to VUCA, BANI — Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, and Incomprehensible — is a framework to articulate the increasingly commonplace situations in which simple volatility or complexity are insufficient lenses through which to understand what’s taking place. Situations in which conditions aren’t simply unstable, they’re chaotic. In which outcomes aren’t simply hard to foresee, they’re completely unpredictable.

>"We are in an age of chaos, an era that intensely, almost violently, rejects structure. It isn’t simple instability, it’s a reality that seems to actively resist efforts to understand what the hell is going on. This current moment of political mayhem, climate disasters, and global pandemic — and so much more — vividly demonstrates the need for a way of making sense of the world, the need for a new method or tool to see the shapes this age of chaos takes. This is such a helpful framework. For those interested in the political economy side of our moment in time, read McKenzie Wark's 'Capital is Dead'. She makes a really interesting case that whats emerging isn't capitalism anymore but something else (maybe something worse). The book is flawed but she attempts to find a new language to describe the world, just like Marx did in his time. I find this type of thinking really helpful, because imo the terminology made up my Marx falls short in describing the economy of today.
