We live in the "inferno of the same" [Byung-Chul Han], a society ruled by conformity under capitalism- focusing on the inadequacy of the alienated is only fanning the flames

My bias would agree with you - I would however look to capitalism servinc niche markets. Wouldn’t critics of marxism point to the new soviet man( [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Soviet_man](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Soviet_man) ) an inferno of the same? Is either capitalism or communism (for the sake of the argument) similarly fueling the inferno of the same in different ways?

I wouldn't consider politic to be the origin of conformity but different regimes definitely exploit that behavioural tendency in different ways. My point was that focusing on the gestalt- the whole structure that informs its parts- is the perspective we need- the kind of big-picture perspective antithetical to capitalism.

Mark Fisher explores this a bit in Capitalist Realism – that capitalism seems to be failing in some of the same ways that communism did. Although he focus more on the ballooning managerial bureaucracy to illustrate that point. But he does talk at length about the mental health crisis and capitalism's inability to deal with it precisely because it offers solutions to symptoms on a private/individual basis instead of addressing systemic causes.

The consequences of rejection and exclusion is heart breaking. “chronic rejection is associated with an increasingly serious array of self-destructive and antisocial behaviors, including academic difficulties, truancy, dropping out of high school, violence and aggression, adolescent delinquency, and substance abuse ”

Amen. The root cause of addiction has been found to be disconnection. There was a Tedtalk done on it. (Edited) here's a link to Uplift Connects article on the root cause of addiction: [https://kapu.news/connection-cures-addiction](https://kapu.news/connection-cures-addiction)
