On the Growing Potential of Computational Literature.
"Alison Parrish, a professor in NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications program, is developing methods to think about both language and computation using algorithms and AI. For a recent project, Compasses (2019), Parish created a machine learning model for phonetic similarity comprising a “speller” and a “sounder-outer.” Together, when fed an input of words chosen by Parish, the two tools produced a numerical vector called a “hidden state.” By toying with this value mathematically, she could uncover extant or produce new words in the zones between the outer four corner words she chose.
