This is beyond troubling as “it is extremely clear that [@Spotify](/user/profile/Spotify) billionaire daniel ek has never made music, or art of any kind for that matter. he refuses to understand there's a difference between commodities and art. the potential for cultural growth will suffer because of it.” — ([@ZOLAJESUS](/user/profile/ZOLAJESUS) )

It is pretty clear that near-monopoly platforms are bad for both users and creators. In Spotify's case there needs to be more competition, or the unequitable royalty system they've put in place is unlikely to ever change. In a certain way Spotify isn't that different from the platforms built around services - foodora, uber and so on - they have in common that they impose working in the way the platform has deemed the most economically beneficial, while creating the illusion of workers/creators having a choice in when or how they work.

>"Daniel Ek was responding to allegations that Spotify doesn't pay artists enough in royalties. He said those who struggle with streaming have failed to adapt."
