“In ‘Selling Sunset,’ winning is everything. The struggle to achieve the most and the best is heard in the near-tuneless, near-identical thrum of the E.D.M. songs that punctuate almost every scene on the show, and which give voice...to a kind of neoliberal Stockholm syndrome.”

I don’t know where Netflix has been hiding Selling Sunset in its algorithm for the past two seasons, but season 3 has ARRIVED and I AM HOOKED. Watching this show is basically all I’m doing with my nights because Christine is my new religion.

Artical is really nice but a little bit far from reality

I like the article - of course it’s well written - I just bristle at things that define the social and cultural experience of LA through a Hollywood production. It’s like describing about San Francisco entirely via Silicon Valley. The industries aren’t the whole stories. The Netflix reality show about luxury-real-estate agents is one part house porn and one part office drama, with a strong undercurrent of ruthlessness and egocentrism

In the world of “Selling Sunset,” Christine is a limit case, and her over-the-top power-ditz act appears, at times, nearly parodic. (On an early episode this season, she throws a “burgers and Botox”-themed open house, at which, in a grotesque tableau, some guests receive injections to smooth out their furrowed brows as others scarf down patties mere paces away.) The conflagration is “a great bonfire of architectural styles, ranging from Egyptian to Cape Cod colonial,” fuelled by the rage of “all those poor devils who can only be stirred by the promise of miracles and then only to violence,” and who “come to California to die.”

Selling Sunset is a reality television series airing on Netflix which follows the lives of Oppenheimer Group real estate agents working to sell homes in Los Angeles. The series' popularity has been attributed to its colorful cast of female agents, which makes it reminiscent of Real Housewives, and its scenes of luxurious L.A. homes, giving it an air of house-hunting reality TV shows.
