I like the analogies of investment in athletics reaping more medals with investing in economies to increase economic returns. It seems a neat comparison, but just like we question what metrics to use to evaluate economic investment we have to question whether medals at Olympics are a good measurement of investment into athletics. Is the UK a healthier and happier place because of these investments, or are they just 'bragging rights' that have little effect on the health outcomes of the nation?
