To me this shows the weak state of the US welfare state. Effects such as being able to find a higher quality job are already in place in countries with universal unemployment insurance and/or longer term earnings-based benefits.

Stockton is out with preliminary results on its guaranteed-income program. Cash helps. It doesn't hurt the labor market. And it alleviates some of the toxic stress and anxiety lower-income families experience day in and day out.
