Fascinating read about the acts for tree saving, PATRICK MCGRAW speaks about the treehugging which is became more a commemorative act than anything else, amidst the complexity of today’s climate doom. "Treehugging has always been connected to grief. The first treehugger, Amrtia Devi, was a Bishnoi woman living in the Indian village of Khejarli in the 18th century. During a dispute with servants of the Maharajah in 1730, Devi spontaneously began hugging a tree in order to prevent it from being felled and used in the construction of a nearby palace. After Devi declined a bribe to allow the felling, she was decapitated, with her final words supposedly being, “A chopped head is cheaper than a chopped tree.” Before the Maharajah’s soldiers retreated, another 362 Bishnois villagers, including the elderly and children, would be killed, many of them while hugging trees."
