According to the right, a specter is haunting the United States: the specter of critical race theory (CRT)

>"The War on Critical Race Theory from Boston Review. Turning a blind eye to the realities of racial injustice, the highly orchestrated right-wing attacks cast a body of scholarship about race in the law as a great threat to American society."

I’m not really sure what the point of this article is. If it’s just to suggest that “CRT is under threat from Conservatives” - well duh, we don’t need a dozen examples of these attacks as everyone is already aware of this. If it’s to take that premise a step further and assign a “reason” to why Conservatives are attacking it (to maintain social/political power according to the author) - well duh, isn’t that the reason anybody opposes anything? One rejects higher taxes b/c they decrease one’s wealth, abortion prohibition b/c it decreases autonomy over one’s body, etc.. Is it just to say that the average conservative doesn’t actually understand CRT? Well duh again, I’m sure even many conservatives would openly admit they have 0 desire to engage with it or learn more about it.

Also, It feels like this piece is just another political bait post to rant about Conservatives being bad. If the author was really interested in teaching something useful about the Conservative understanding of CRT, or even more specifically why there appears to be such fierce (and uninformed as the author points out) opposition towards it, they would compare the average, popular Democratic dialogue with the average, popular Conservative dialogue on the subject. But, the author doesn’t. They only address the left’s “correct” views on CRT in the context of deeply informed and highly technical academia. They only address the right’s “views” in the context of the average conservative rabble’s response to the proliferation and application of CRT across society. It’s apples to oranges - and at best it’s misguided, at worst it’s malicious. I think the most interesting question to be asked here is not what conservatives think of CRT, but what they think of the left’s application of CRT as an analytical tool for guiding social change, and consequently it’s potential role in society. But nah, that’s dumb. Let’s get a bunch of conservatives to share their take on the popular discourse surrounding CRT and it’s application, and then compare it only to the heavily technical, academic theory. That will make everyone smarter.

i've noticed that there is a strain of the very-far right that's gotten mad at the far-but-not-quite-as-far right for using terms like "CRT" since they think it obfuscates the underlying complaint. Which, of course it does, but it's funny to see some of them just say it. it serves as the substitute for "cultural Marxism," which served as the substitute for "communism," in the most incoherent continuation of the red scare so far.
