"Mishandled" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. The BLM protests were against excessive police violence. The police didn't "mishandle" them, they acted as counter-protesters insistent upon maintaining the barest minimums of checks on their authority to do whatever they fuck they want. And by and large it was successful. We continue to live in a police state. It's a hard truth to accept, it took me a long time to do so, but it's the truth, and things aren't going to get better until we accept reality as it exists in the present and move forward from there.
