Catharsis from Lockdown via Music and Songwriting, My Experience
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote and recorded this piece of music (Youtube link) hoping it would serve as a catharsis from the recent lockdown. This process started in very late March and was complete and posted up on Youtube by April 3rd.
Being creative while "stuck inside this house", as the song laments, helped me keep my mind from going to dark places and compounding all the existing stress. While I always say I need to write and record more, it's typically hard to find the time. Therein lies a possible silver lining (depending on your perspective) somewhere in the isolation that most of us experienced and continue to experience.
This piece was built using Logic Pro X 10.4 on a Macbook Pro. I used a Mojave condenser microphone and a Yamaha TRB 1005 for live vocals and the bass guitar solo in the middle of the piece. Drums, piano, and the accompaniment bass are royalty free Apple Loops from the Logic library. The "guitar" part is bass guitar with some interesting Logic plugin effects.
Frankly, I needed an excuse to play some bass as I'm primarily a professional bassist first before vocals or other instruments. Thus, this tune is essentially a hook and a bass solo. Stylistically, I would describe it as a fusion of pop, jazz, and soul.
I hope you enjoy the tune and bass solo. I enjoyed creating it.
