Unaddressed are the most important questions we should answer BEFORE changing our tax system: (1) Does the wealth of rich people mostly sit in a closet or do they use it to invest in enterprises that make things people want? (2) If the latter, are we sure government bureaucrats can give people what they want better than the wealthy? (3) How much private wealth is dedicated to charitable ends? (4) Are we sure government bureaucrats are better able to direct such efforts than are people like Bill Gates, Andrew Carnegie, and John D Rockefeller? (5) Is this movement really driven by concern for the public welfare or by greed of politicians?
