Widely circulating coronavirus variants and persistent hesitancy about vaccines will keep the goal out of reach. The virus is here to stay, but vaccinating the most vulnerable may be enough to restore normalcy.

“They are coming to the conclusion that rather than making a long-promised exit, the virus will most likely become a manageable threat that will continue to circulate in the United States for years to come, still causing hospitalizations and deaths but in much smaller numbers.”

The people who won’t wear masks but want the country to open up are now the people who won’t get the vaccine to help get rid of masks and open up the country completely. The vaccine doesn’t just protect yourself, it protects others on your family and community too. I personally was relieved to get the vaccine and had only mild side effects. And now I can go visit my family out of state again. but its don't mean we crowd in marker or enjoy party with friend hang out with vaccinated friends!

Maybe. But that would be a problem. Herd immunity will be achieved in the US one way or the other. The choice is clear: Get vaccinated or live with C-19 until everyone who isn’t gets infected. The latter choice is dangerous, deadly and completely avoidable.

There needs to be accountability for the folks who blew the Covid response. From Trump and pence and Kushner on down. It was the greatest national security and public health and financial failure in American history. And we need justice to heal and honor the lost and recover now

" the only way out of the pandemic would be for so many people to gain immunity" Yet Australia & NZ are basically Covid free The only way it enters the country now is via overseas arrivals, who must Hotel Quarantine for 14 days, at their own cost Victoria population 6.5 million.

NOT what the article said. It said that the herd immunity threshold is likely 80% due to the more transmissible variants. Current surveying shows more than 20% of US adults will not get vaccinated. Therefore Covid-19 will continue to be a risk tho reduced due to vaccination. [@Druss](/user/profile/Druss) [@AlexCPoon](/user/profile/AlexCPoon)

The people doing all the work in the group project need a break. There needs to be more a push to educate people. Most of the people who dont want the vaccine, have NO idea how it works, and it shows as they argue why one shouldn't get it. I think if people get educated, alot more of them will get the vaccine.

Certain activities must require proof of vaccination (& legal penalties for possession of fake documents). In person college, theater attendance, flights, cruises, military service, etc. Eventually K12 schools (once FDA fully approves).

To many conspiracy theories out there and mis information. People trust facebook posts and some guy who never went to med school rather then medical experts. Thank god we did not have the exposure to falsehoods when polio, small pox, measles vaccines were being distributed.

The degradation in trust for expertise by the masses is a serious problem. I'm not sure who is to blame. The politicization of non-political things- like vaccines, climate change, etc... It's not good. Everyone should make their own vaccine decisions, but it's really not a good thing that people are trusting random internet voices over actual experts in the fields. I'm not saying experts are always right. But virologists and medical doctors and scientists know more about this that Johnny YouTube or whoever.
