I think Republican leaders missed on the power of talk radio conspiracy theorists, Fox News, Facebook and Twitter when it came to amplifying the voices of the terminally crazy. US democracy tacitly allowed for profit business models to profit and win from its own destruction.
Life imitates art , and in the US, that usually means Hollywood. When I watched videos of the assault on the US Capitol on January 6, it reminded me of a combination of the movies Elysium, Mad Max and Jonestown. The difference between Jim Jones and Donald Trump was that while Jim Jones drank the Kool-Aid and died with his followers in the end, Donald Trump told his followers to march on the Capitol, but then turned around and returned to the White House, watching television to see if their assault would succeed!
Trump is the ultimate con-man and grifter who accidentally became president. He ran for president as a joke, and was taken aback that so many people could believe his con. Like any good grifter, he is now focused on how he can monetize the con for his idiot children.
It's a great American story!
