Tedros warned that some countries fear they won’t get the vaccines promised under the WHO-led Covax initiative. Although Tedros hailed the vaccine rollout as a great scientific achievement, he noted that there are lessons to be learned from past global pandemics when vaccines took a long time to reach developing countries. The current crisis was a chance to “rewrite history,” by ensuring that vaccines are distributed fairly between countries and to those who need them the most.

"Its almost as if the countries that spent billions of dollars and months of research and development in order synthesize a vaccine get it first? I agree with other sentiments here that we need to get it under control in our country before we can help others. If it's not under control here then while we're helping others we will continue to slide downhill."

Arguing that if the moral imperative isn’t compelling enough to think of the massive global inequities in ability to outbid others for vaccines and thus save lives, then maybe the more selfish self preservation reasons can...??!
