"Acting in the tradition of non-violent direct action and civil disobedience, proponents of Electronic Civil Disobedience are borrowing the tactics of trespass and blockade from these earlier social movements and are applying them to the Internet... Electronic Civil Disobedience, as a form of mass decentered electronic direct action, utilizes virtual blockades and virtual sit-ins."

Very cool post, taylore! Makes me question the verbiage surrounding DDoS "attacks". If a group automates the ECD process using a botnet, have they taken a step away form peaceful protest and toward virtual riots? Fewer answers than questions on this one, but still a crisp find!

I was active at The Thing when Stefan wrote this, as it was being developed by Ricardo, Carmin, Brett and him. The first FloodNet software was pretty controversial. They were always battling back against what they called “digital correctness” that saw improper use of network resources as always bad. Also the US DoD tested countermeasures against them in possible violation of the Posse Comitas Act. Wild times
