IMHO food is 1/3 of the puzzle that deals with wellness and "feeling" good. Important factors such as sleep, stress and finding ways to unleash emotions are overlooked in the western urban lifestyle. The focus on food makes sense but only if one keeps in mind that it's not the main reason one feels like binging.
I'd also argue that the situation in the US is slightly different compared to the EU. Guru culture is universal, but I feel that the US set the standard for a hyper market driven culture where there is always someone with THE solution.
