This isn’t a “news” piece, but instead a long form reflection on how the game theory of humanity frequently works against us. Small section on bitcoin in there, but it’s not the primary focus. The piece as a whole has made me think more deeply about how the unstoppable nature of cryptonetworks can either be society’s best friend, or worst enemy, depending on how careful we are with mechanism design and the desired output of economic incentives.
