Lots of interesting thoughts here. Hito Steyerl is calling for a cessation by artists and art workers from the art world (and by extension its money) and forming and alternative exchange network. But why still call that art? Seems like it would be more apt to call it something else - something more all-encompassing... something a little more refreshing? The elitism part didn't make much sense to me also. I think there is a distinction to be made between intellectuals & art elite. Also anti-elitism does not necessarily equate to totalitarianism. Again maybe she talking in a wider sense of the word art, but to me it seems overly constrained.

[#Artcoin](/relevant/new/Artcoin) Not sure if that’s a different thing. The content would be more art, rather than less perhaps, in its protection of the end result that does not have to shimmy up to the cultural autobahn, no? It could even be a bit like this app

Is artcoin an existing thing? Seems like what she is proposing would take more than just another coin... at the very least it would be a secondary thing.

No, I just used that to vandalize the earnestness. It would take a framework, a grassroots approach. The coin could aid in rewording said efforts in remarkable ways though, consider rewarding effort in energy invested, not just supply/demand/capitalization related. A creator could give a part of something he creates or will create that would have time to grow if need be, not monetize. This can already be done partially be giving art for labor, but that has endless limitations, restrictions etc
