By my understanding, of all the communities on Relevant, Support is the one with the largest amount of posts that comes from direct members (not opinions of some people/sites out there that seems fascinating to members and they decide to share) - questions out of their inquisitive minds, an experience they feel will guide new members, discussions about other communities and how to get better generally on this platform. These have to be carefully typed in most cases, as opposed to what is obtainable in other communities where the bulk of the information is contained in a link that is copied and pasted. Support is where informations needed to thrive well in all those other communities is shared and discussed Now I'm concerned that it is allowed for a poster in other communities to throw their weight behind whatever post they are bringing in from without (by being able to upvote and bet on them) but it is not allowed in Support where the idea and writing of information shared is mostly done within. [@slava](/user/profile/slava) [@DrEllisJaruzel](/user/profile/DrEllisJaruzel) [@taylore](/user/profile/taylore) [@Druss](/user/profile/Druss) [@Relevant](/user/profile/Relevant) [@CryptoMan](/user/profile/CryptoMan) is there a questionable action or behavior this restriction is meant to check? My understanding is, the same way posts in other communities will go nowhere without the collective efforts of members voting them as relevant, write ups here in Support will amount to nothing as well no matter what, if they are not considered and voted relevant by the required members. I humbly request to know the rationale behind this. Cheers!

Hi Christlik People can bet on posts in support and the Relevance (which ones that pay out) of the posts in support will only be affected by the Rep scores of Support users. Rep isn't transferable across communities so high Rep users on other feeds can't wade in and affect voting in Support. Does this answer your questions?

Hi Anniceris Thanks for your response, but no this does not attend to my question. My question is 'why can't posters upvote and bet on their own posts in Support while they can in other communities?' Other communities work by sharing useful links but this is not the case mostly in Support. Now I know typed out posts are considered as comments across all communities, but since many posts in Support have to be typed out because of the nature of the community, there can be a means to distinguished written/typed posts here and not regard them as comment. Please let me know if you understand my point?

Ah yes, I get what you are saying now I think. That posters can upvote their own post on other feeds but not on here, if I am understanding you correctly?

Yes you have gotten my point.

Its a good point you have here and I don't have the answer I'm afraid. Are the social dynamics in Support feed different from other communities which means we shouldn't enable this? If this was enabled would it improve the support feed? Also by allowing people to bet on their own posts here how would that affect REP scores as people would be upvoting themselves. This is just a random suggestion, but you could start a blog/medium site or something else where you write articles on Relevant about what concerns you. Maybe then posting these would then allow you to bet on your thoughts. I am just suggesting this as possible solution, but I am not sure how it would be received or if it is achievable.

You have raised good questions about what effects that could have and it is exactly answers to those that I love to know, hoping there will be responses from those who have the answers. The limiting factor here is - once it's not a link that is posted, it is considered as comment and I understand why users are not allowed to upvote their own comments. But I think there should be a way to distinguish typed posts from comments. If that would not be done, then your suggestion of starting a blog will come in handy but then I wonder how posting of links in Support will be welcomed.

That is indeed the technical reason - text post is considered a comment, where as a link post has both, a link and a comment. But this is a good point - we’ll spend some more time thinking about this and consider updates in the future.

Thank you for noting it for consideration.
