When I joined [@Relevant](/user/profile/Relevant) community, like many I can see around right now, I started interacting with posts and other members without knowing the DOs and DONTs. Days went by before I realized I have accumulated lots of down-votes and I was of no good reputation. Then I realized I do not have to be a spammer to get down-votes; there is the place of low quality posts and comments, comments especially was a great pitfall for me.
Now I could have realized this earlier if I did get notifications of those down-votes but there was none.
To those joining in and who are new here; read around, get to know what this is all about so you can make quality and meaningful contributions. And importantly, do yourself the favor of checking every contributions you have made to see how they are doing because you won't get any notification for down-votes, you only get them for up-votes.
To [@slava](/user/profile/slava) [@DrEllisJaruzel](/user/profile/DrEllisJaruzel) [@taylore](/user/profile/taylore) I understand the rationale behind not giving notifications for down-votes like for up-votes but I think there can be a workaround for it. While we have "(a_username) upvoted your comment" for upvotes, we can have just "your comment was downvoted" for downvotes - this way, no one will know who downvoted them.
This is a suggestion that popped into my head as I remembered how shocked I was the day I saw that many of my comments had gotten some downvotes without my knowledge, during my early days here.
