It's an very biased article against NFTs by someone you would expect to have better knowledge of the tech given their credentials. Yes I agree with this issue that an NFT itself is not the actual art on most occasions and you are just buying a set of digits on a blockchain that link to the art, but decentralised storage solutions for this are being developed and some NFTs like Aavegotchis & punks do have their artwork on chain. Yes Ethereum does have issues with energy use as a POW chain but this is changing with POS and there are already NFTs on less power intensive POS chains and also ways to offset carbon at the same time as minting; in fact NFTs offer one of the best solutions for issuing carbon credits! L2 solutions will also help with this. I still get frustrated when NFTs are compared to static art pieces when they have much more functionality than that. Overall it's an article that highlights the uphill battles we face informing the world of this tech due to misinformation or selective publishing by mainstream news outlets.
