The interview transcript below grew out a lecture by Federici for a seminar on postwar Italian thought at Brown lead by professors Suzanne Stewart-Steinberg and Laura Odello in the spring semester of 2020. As the Coronavirus crisis forced a transition to “remote learning” the seminar came increasingly to address the raminifications of an Italian tradition for an analysis of the pandemic. One of the most memorable sessions was held on April 20th with Silvia Federici participating remotely via Zoom. Seminar participants had read Federici’s Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation and used the work as a lense through which to read the current pandemic response. Sara Colantuono and Arlen Austin picked up on some of the threads from this conversation, conducting an interview with Federici in May.
