This is what I don't understand about this case, and any case where an unarmed person is running away, whether from a police officer or from a corrections officer. Shooting a person who is running away seems like extra-judicial execution.
I thought police have guns to save the lives of themselves and members of the public when faced with a potentially deadly threat. Someone unarmed who runs away just because they don't want to be caught doesn't seem to fit this criteria.
I'd appreciate any information anyone can give me here to explain why this officer shot a person who was running away.
