>"If employees actually had to pee in bottles, Amazon said, “nobody would work for us.” That’s a lie."

Especially during COVID, finding places to use the bathroom was difficult and definitely not quick. It came with a certain amount of fear as well. In this job market there is a lot of pressure to meet and exceed expectation to stay employed. As for the company denial, pretty sure I read recently that they know when you yawn...pretty sure they would know this too.

Every shipping company knows drivers do this. It is common in trucking. There's big fines if a DOT catches you with a piss bottle in your truck. I know Amazon is the company to beat on lately, and I agree in a lot of cases, but this is so common I can't see how they could not know it is happening.

[@jonomilo](/user/profile/jonomilo) Here’s what I hate about this (not the article but Amazon’s response) the whole argument of “if you don’t like, or if it’s too hard for you” or any tired excuse these people try to make is the complete and utter tone deafness of their words. You can be proud your work but if you’re living on the brink of poverty, your options for conditions are limited so the fact that Amazon drivers are having to pee in bottles doesn’t mean they LIKE it, it means they more than likely don’t have choice and it’s the companies’ fault!

Of course they do. I drove a taxi for years and I kept a bottle just in case and used it a couple times. It's normal and considering that Amazon puts a lot of pressure on their employees, it's natural they would find ways to continue working without stopping. I'm sure Amazon knows about it and are only acting surprised because it's been discovered by the media.

This is America where we don’t provide public restrooms for anyone. We depend upon gas stations which may or may not be open to the public! All Americans, Amazon Drivers, the Homeless, Children, the Elderly, et al need clean and available restroom accommodations!

This piece is a good exposé on the tactics that Amazon is using to control the media narrative regarding its treatment of its employees. The Intercept obtained several company emails discussing the practices of peeing in bottles and shitting in bags. Workers are not just doing these things for fun, they're doing engaging in drastic time-saving techniques to meet their productivity quotas for fear of being fired and replaced. *None* of Amazon's 800k employees in the US are unionized.
